Mezashite! presents: Sakura Trick episode 12

For those of you who waited for us, thank you. For those of you who didn’t, I hope you enjoy rewatching the finale.

Akatsukin (Translation, Timing, QC, Typesetting)

For once, finally, someone delivered and gave us not only the yuri anime that we’ve been waiting for, but a romantic anime where getting together is not the final point in the series (putting aside Haruka’s retardation). Pretty sure I said I’d never do a sign-heavy anime again after KinMoza, but we just couldn’t pass up the chance for something so well suited for Mezashite! It was again a lot of work, and I know due to various reasons the last two episodes were quite delayed, but I hope you enjoyed Sakura Trick as much as I did. I don’t think my heart will ever be the same again. And since it looks like we’re doing this, Mitsuki best.

Etoce (Editing, Typesetting, Songs)

Actually, I’m pretty sure we decided to do Sakura Trick because of a hastily made snap decision on a groggy Wednesday morning. Also, Kotone’s probably the best girl.

furzi (Typesetting, Encoding (12))

Kaede best girl.

yuyu (Encoding, Slacking)

bad show

HomuHomu—Old and busted, Harupoppo—New hotness

HomuHomu—Old and busted, Harupoppo—New hotness

4koma—never again. KinMoza did this too, but when one person has to time, TL, TS, and QC all in a day, the tiredness just kind of leaves you feeling hollow. First off, a huge special thanks to our rival(?) group Kaylith for kindly providing us with the right to use their encode (since ours was never born).

So about that SumiSumi. As you’ll see, she inherited a way of speaking from her grandfather. Now, in Japanese, this is simply an ending to her sentences (のじゃ!/ no ja!) as well as some other changes to her regular verb endings. But that doesn’t work in English. It also contrasts with her childish and kind of girlish way of referring to herself using her name as a first person pronoun. I hope none of you are linguists literate, because you’ll probably have a conniption after seeing my best effort at making her sound like an old fogey.

More SBJK fun this episode. This time we have 執念深い女子高生 (shuunen bukai joshi kousei), literally “spiteful high school girl” and 信じられないほど無様な女子高生 (shinjirarenai hodo buzama na joshi kousei), “unbelievably clumsy high school girl”. The pun with 風の子 (kaze no ko) “outdoors child” and かずのこ (kazu no ko) “herring roe” is that they sound similar. We sort of tried to carry it over as best we could (super secret original version is in the comments). Uh, last thing is when Japanese people use the word マイ (mai), it means more of a personal item. See Steins;Gate for more information.

Notes! In Japanese, there are two ways to wish someone a happy New Year depending on if it’s before or after the actual event. Before, you say “yoi otoshi wo”, and after you say “akemashite omedetou” or any of the many, many variations of that. If you listen carefully, you’ll have an easier time understanding what Haruka and Yuu talk about. S.B.J.K. is 嫉妬深い女子高生 (shitto bukai joshi kousei), literally “deeply jealous high school girl”. I guarantee every group subbing this show will translate it differently (if at all). Bets on CR having a translator note. Finally, keikaku means plan.

Hey, turns out I’m one of the fortunate people who can actually function after getting four teeth removed, so we were able to bring you two timely releases this week. Still can’t eat hard/solid foods yet though. Also, Shinobu is voiced by Shinobu. Think about that for a bit.

As with any cultural festival episode, there are a whole bunch of foods they talk about. All you need to know is that they taste good and have dimensions. Oh, and students can stay overnight leading up to it. I hope you all enjoy the episode I sacrificed my right elbow and wrist for.

The Japanese do what they do best this episode, and rape yet another classic western tale. Originally, the queen is not a witch, was never a witch, never met a witch, and never dressed as a witch. She lived and died as the selfish person she was born as. Likewise, the hunter and the prince are generally not the same person. They also seemed to forget seven rather important characters, who were even in the original Grimms’ Fairy Tales.

Also, we’re having some kind of argument about green tea versus matcha. Matcha is a specific type of green tea powder, prepared in a unique fashion and used in a lot of different types of cooking (and is also Yuu’s favorite flavor). Matcha latte is like a regular latte but made with matcha instead of coffee. In any case, it’s about whether the word is common or not, and it’s in the gray (green?) zone. Whatever.
