Aikatsu! – 31

Wish my mom was like her

Wish my mom was like her

Okay! Finally got this episode out (messing with kfx is suffering, don’t do it). Lots of fun little things I got to do with the translation too. Only note is about kinpira, and the root vegetable they mention gobo. It’s just a type of stir-fry.

This episode was pretty straightforward, I think.  Next episode is finally the long awaited Mother’s Day one where (most likely) Ichigo finds out the big reveal.  Hopefully no delays next week.

I like shiny things

Ah, finally out. You have things from real life to blame for the delays. So, in celebration I’ve got a couple of simple notes for you. As we found out thanks to discussion sparked by Commie’s release of last week’s Aiura, there’s no good way to keep a phrase or joke about honorifics in translation without sounding awkward or just plain bad. Now, we may keep honorifics in, but there’s not a good way to say “without honorifics”, 呼び捨て (yobisute).  As such, we changed what Aoi says a little bit, and hope you understand the change. The second note is about a thing called a “lifelog”, basically just some sort of recording of one’s entire daily life. Check it out on wiki here or just accept the explanation in-episode.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Next week’s episode will also be delayed, hopefully only by one day. Yeah, real life strikes again.

Aikatsu! – 27 and 1-25 Batch

What I wouldn't give to be able to wear this...

What I wouldn’t give to be able to wear this…

That’s right, we’re building up to another climax, which if they’re going to be consistent should end in a nice surprise next episode.  As for notes, I suppose there are two.  First up is the blackboard signs in the song, which simply say “Fresh Girls Cup”.  Next is “green juice”. It’s a Japanese drink made from kale and other vegetables/leaves, and, while being very nutritious, apparently tastes rather bad.

ALSO— If you were already seeding the show, please pick up this new batch torrent so we can spread the Aikatsu love to more people.  No fixes were made from the final releases of each episode, so you can just redirect it to whatever folder you were using up until now.

Like the sakura in full bloom...

Like the sakura in full bloom…

Well, there we are. I suppose one of the TL-kuns will write a proper story here. For now, have the torrent:

Thanks Yuyu, Akatsukin here.  As I wrote earlier (if you caught that), all three of us either needed the extra time or were running late or fell asleep or something.  It’s now the turning point of the series and we almost have our full cast assembled, so let’s see where it goes from here on out.

As for minor TL notes, the first thing for those of you with literally no Japanese knowledge is that sakura = cherry blossom.  Mochi is a type of traditional Japanese food made by pounding rice (watch Tamako Market for a visual), whereas sakura mochi is a specific type that’s pink and wrapped in a sakura leaf.  Dango is a sweet made from mochi, put on a stick, and dipped in some sort of sweet something or other (there are many types, see Clannad for visual).  And comparing flowers and dango is significant since there is an aphorism in Japanese, “hana yori dango” (dango over flowers), which means “preferring practical things to decorative things” (see Hana Yori Dango for uh… not-visual).

The only person who can suck Dio-sama’s blood is Yurika-sama

Vampire battle of the ages, courtesy of the one and only Aikatsu! Suck it Dio, there’s no way you can beat Yurika— she’s got 600 years on you.  Anyway, if you’ve somehow missed all the announcements, I’m sure you’ve noticed it now— Aikatsu airs on Thursdays from now on, which means that both of our shows air in the middle of the week.  Can we keep it up? Only time will tell.

Suddenly, Persona.  We’re finally reaching our half-year anniversary of becoming a group, woohoo! Also, don’t forget that starting next week Aikatsu! airs on Thursdays instead of Mondays, so don’t get confused.

Mmm, delicious idol scent.

Mmm, delicious idol scent.

Yes, give me more concerts with the three main girls.  Look at all that aura they’re giving off.  So, there are a couple of notes for this episode courtesy of Raichi.  To start with, I’m pretty sure the pen name doesn’t mean anything, it just sounds cool the pen name is a pun on nightingale, silly.  He then makes a pun on “aikatsu” and “katsuai” (to omit, leave out).  The pun’s gone, but the joke’s still around.  Right, there’s also Aoi’s catchphrase of “odayaka ja nai wa”.  This has a bit too many meanings and is a little too context sensitive to translate the same way each time, so you’re best off just training your ear to hear it because it’s going to be different every time.  And as a reminder for next time, it just so happens that ageha = swallowtail.  Alright then, get to it.

Oh right, sorry for being late.  Blame undercooked pork and starcraft.

Also, if you already grabbed the first version, here’s the updated .ass.  It’s not a patch, so just stick it in the same folder as the original file and it should work.
