Aikatsu! – 29

I like shiny things

I like shiny things

Ah, finally out. You have things from real life to blame for the delays. So, in celebration I’ve got a couple of simple notes for you. As we found out thanks to discussion sparked by Commie’s release of last week’s Aiura, there’s no good way to keep a phrase or joke about honorifics in translation without sounding awkward or just plain bad. Now, we may keep honorifics in, but there’s not a good way to say “without honorifics”, 呼び捨て (yobisute).  As such, we changed what Aoi says a little bit, and hope you understand the change. The second note is about a thing called a “lifelog”, basically just some sort of recording of one’s entire daily life. Check it out on wiki here or just accept the explanation in-episode.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Next week’s episode will also be delayed, hopefully only by one day. Yeah, real life strikes again.

Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge – 05

The level of abridgment in this episode was horrifying.

I wish they didn’t cut so many of the cutesy parts out…

Anyway, Romio’s name is spelled that way because it’s originally written in kanji, and that’s how that kind of name is romanized. Besides, it’s even spelled with an “i” in the email he gets.

And their school is an elevator school, though I don’t think there’s really anything confusing about it this episode. It basically means that you get to go directly from one level to another (for example, middle to high) without taking tests (as you would normally have to).

New edit: Well fuck.  The v2 we made was missing fonts and the chapter file.  Not as big an issue as having the wrong script, so let’s just keep adding things until we can’t handle it anymore.  No patch this time, just the files.

Also, Aikatsu delayed until Friday.

Poor Kashiko…

So apparently, the anime decided not to have Rulebook dude introduce himself outright, so there’s a joke that doesn’t really come across as clearly in the anime as it does in the manga. Not that we translated it anyway.

Basically, in the scene where he talks about his ancestor, he ends it with “seigi da ze”, or “that was/that is/it is/I am/etc justice”. And his name is Seigi. Which means justice. Clever, I know. In the manga, when Kiri replies “What justice?” he just says “What are you talking about? I’m just introducing myself.”

Here I don’t think you actually find out his name until police girl mentions it.

Anyway, now that you’ve possibly spoiled yourself, here’s the episode:

Aikatsu! – 27 and 1-25 Batch

What I wouldn't give to be able to wear this...

What I wouldn’t give to be able to wear this…

That’s right, we’re building up to another climax, which if they’re going to be consistent should end in a nice surprise next episode.  As for notes, I suppose there are two.  First up is the blackboard signs in the song, which simply say “Fresh Girls Cup”.  Next is “green juice”. It’s a Japanese drink made from kale and other vegetables/leaves, and, while being very nutritious, apparently tastes rather bad.

ALSO— If you were already seeding the show, please pick up this new batch torrent so we can spread the Aikatsu love to more people.  No fixes were made from the final releases of each episode, so you can just redirect it to whatever folder you were using up until now.

Why do I feel like she’s going to get way less screentime than she deserves?

We have a shiny new timer. So it took a little longer, because, uh, complications. Welcome new timer.

The “Hai” in Haimura means “ash”, or “grey”.

I’m tired, so I’m going to sleep. This post really should’ve been longer.

Like the sakura in full bloom...

Like the sakura in full bloom…

Well, there we are. I suppose one of the TL-kuns will write a proper story here. For now, have the torrent:

Thanks Yuyu, Akatsukin here.  As I wrote earlier (if you caught that), all three of us either needed the extra time or were running late or fell asleep or something.  It’s now the turning point of the series and we almost have our full cast assembled, so let’s see where it goes from here on out.

As for minor TL notes, the first thing for those of you with literally no Japanese knowledge is that sakura = cherry blossom.  Mochi is a type of traditional Japanese food made by pounding rice (watch Tamako Market for a visual), whereas sakura mochi is a specific type that’s pink and wrapped in a sakura leaf.  Dango is a sweet made from mochi, put on a stick, and dipped in some sort of sweet something or other (there are many types, see Clannad for visual).  And comparing flowers and dango is significant since there is an aphorism in Japanese, “hana yori dango” (dango over flowers), which means “preferring practical things to decorative things” (see Hana Yori Dango for uh… not-visual).

Everyone's Jojo-ing this week

Everyone’s Jojo-ing this week

This is just a placeholder post while Etoce’s out.  You should thank him, he prioritized this over work today for the last eight hours.

Hi, I’m Etoce. I underwent indescribable sacrifice to bring you this episode at this time. Rest assured, it wasn’t because I wanted to. I just happened to have something to do at night, so we had to release before that. It’s not like I did it because I like you, alright?

I would like to go into further detail about all the hardships I had to go through, but, like I said, they’re indescribable. What I can say is that it probably won’t happen again, so this early release just a one-time thing, unfortunately.

I’m trying to think of things that would’ve needed TL-noting, but the only thing that comes to mind is the spelling of Zewulfa’s name. Research indicated that a similar-sounding name was the name of a monster in Seiken Densetsu 3, which was called Zable Fahr in the English version, but similar-sounding isn’t same-sounding so they’re not the same. We ended up just going with what the Kono-Basho scanlating group (who did the part of the manga where she’s first mentioned) did.

The only person who can suck Dio-sama’s blood is Yurika-sama

Vampire battle of the ages, courtesy of the one and only Aikatsu! Suck it Dio, there’s no way you can beat Yurika— she’s got 600 years on you.  Anyway, if you’ve somehow missed all the announcements, I’m sure you’ve noticed it now— Aikatsu airs on Thursdays from now on, which means that both of our shows air in the middle of the week.  Can we keep it up? Only time will tell.

Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge – 01

Why are you hovering over the image?

Blurrier times

Kiri means “cut”. Iwai means “celebration”. Haimura is gray-village. Which is sort of like gray land.

And there’s actually no cool way to translate “Dansai Bunri (no Crime Edge)” into English. It’s partially due to every single (okay, not literally, but…) Chinese loanword in Japanese being a noun. Even if the original Chinese word was a verb. So things like cutting and severing are non-awkward sounding nouns that are verbified when they need to be verbed. Whereas we have to resort to icky gerunds in English.
