Aikatsu! – 08

Pfft, she doesn’t drink her meat.

Alright, yet another new idol!  It might just be me, but the coolness levels seemed to skyrocket this episode for some reason.

And the notes: 1) If you don’t know, yakiniku is Japanese grilled meat, usually beef or pork of some sort. 2) Ageha is Japanese for swallowtail butterfly (actually relevant). 3) The Aikatsu Aphorism segment at the end was apparently done every episode, but we’ve just been coincidentally missing out on them in our raws.  Hope you’ll forgive us, and we’ll see what we can do about getting the missing ones.

Aikatsu! – 07

This is how we feel when you make lame puns

And onto the seventh episode, an Aoi-centric one.  And on top of that, have some behind-the-scenes info (or you can just skip to the links if you’d like).  In this episode, a Twitter look-alike appears, called Kirakiratter (shining-twitter).  Were we a more liberal group, that would’ve immediately turned into the near-perfect localization “Glitter”.  Of course, then we would’ve had to figure out something better than “gleets” for the posts, but no matter.  Then there’s the pun at 12:23, “アイカツ カイカツ オイガツオ” (Aikatsu Kaikatsu Oigatsuo), which is literally “Aikatsu, Cheerfulness, Some Skipjack Tuna Dish That Involves Sauce” (which makes even less sense that what I thought the last part originally was, which was “Guts”).  Of course, that’s not a pun, so we had to change it around a bit.  Johnny-sensei also has a nice pun later on which is much easier to translate.  Either way, enjoy the episode, and sorry for the delay.

Aikatsu! – 06

A different kind of “moe”.

Moving right along, we’re getting more and more insight into the trials and tribulations of becoming an idol.  Notes this week include: 1) Purikura is what Ran said at the beginning, which we changed to photo booth.  If you haven’t heard of them, it’s that thing where you take a few pictures, and can then edit them with words, sparkles, or even to change your hair color or eye size. 2) When Ran visits Ichigo’s room, she says いらっしゃいませ! (irasshaimase), generally a greeting reserved for when you enter a restaurant or shop, hence Aoi’s remark. 3) If you don’t know anything about the actual Aikatsu! arcade game, check out the post below.  When they talk about “appeal points”, they’re referring to the numbers in the corner of the cards.  If you match the cards correctly within the cute, cool, and sexy categories, the points stack and help you win your audition.

Edit: You might notice at about 15.07 a tiny little mistake in the line being said. Please ignore it for now; we’ll fix it for the batch.  No plans for a version 2 because it isn’t a mistranslation-type error, just something we forgot to take out.

Need more Idols?

So as I was looking around for more Aikatsu things, I happened to run across the official Aikatsu! TV Youtube channel.  It’s got a few promo vids, a summary of the press conference explaining the game, and, most surprisingly, several endorsements by my favorite AKB48 idol, Itano Tomomi.  They even put in a character model for her in the game.  It’s kind of interesting if you just can’t wait until the next episode, and it gives a few teasers for outfits, songs, and new modes that’ll be in the anime.

If you want to check out actual gameplay, try niconico here, here, or here.

Aikatsu! – 05

Silly Ichigo, that’s not how you read.

I hope you all weren’t hoping that there would only be two insert songs, because spoiler alert, this week we finally get a new song, spurred on by the finally appearing third member of the idol group.  Enjoy this week’s dose of idols.

Unnecessary note: Towards the end of the episode, a certain character has “-tarou” added to the end of her name.  If you didn’t fully understand from context, “tarou” used to be a common part of boy’s names, such as the famous “Momotarou” and “Urashima Tarou”. “Rantarou” itself sounds old-fashioned, prompting the samurai comment. (The ninja comment may be a reference to Nintama Rantarou.)
