Aikatsu! – 09

Your face when this episode

>Your face when this episode

God, this episode was an unbelievable amount of trouble to do, despite being the fastest translation yet.  At least it was worth it all in the end.  I’ll just let you all enjoy it.  Japanese Protip: ichi = one, hoshi = star, otome = maiden.

Episode 09: Torrent

Oh yeah, and there have been several comments on whether we’re going to keep at this now that it seems there’ll be 50 episodes.  The answer is: yes, absolutely.  Look forward to the next year.  Also, there are decreasingly many DDLs now that the HelloKitty bot hosts our releases, so we’re stopping that for now.

  1. Wow!!! 518MB!!! did your encoder fallen asleep? but seeing you are the only decent translator for Aikatsu, but please next time keep it within 300mb max (under 200mb would be ideal)…. where I live internet have a very limited quota, and mine is quite expensive to renew the quota once exhausted… I would not want to abandon watching some anime when something like this happens a lot of times….

    • Well you see, the size of an episode changes relative to how many unique frames there are, which in itself is related to how good the animation is (usually). The larger size of this episode is because of the impressive concert segment, and so it requires more space to keep up the same quality as usual. Unfortunately, forcibly making it smaller would make it not as nice looking, so there’s not much we can do about it.

      • I do understand this, but there are ways to actually minimize the increase size is it? Because a lot of anime can be around 300mb mark, and would still be pretty on 720p. i believe a lot of people would not mind if there are few frames low quality on TV release, because that the point of BD release right? If it were BD release, I would not mind the filesize upto 600~800MB for 720p (the usual size). TV for watching as it goes out, and BD for archiving and later viewing.

Hmm… play around the settings a bit, like experimenting 10bit color space, how much the B-frames, etc…

but don’t get me wrong, I am not bashing, just grieving about the filesize, haha. anyway, great release as always…

      • I understand the concern for the file size some are having but please do not compromise on that. There’s no way to know if Mezashite or some other group may do a BD release of this show so I’d prefer to keep the quality of the TV series (especially being 50+ eps) the best.

      • I’m sorry for saying things if I hurt anyone’s feelings. I just actually rage at that moment, like “whut? 500mb’s??? $%^#$^”… Now thinking again, its ok if the 95% are happy. Don’t have to worry about the BD. there will be BD releases, and if not your group, I think some other group will do it. just like other anime releases.

Looking at the episode one more time actually enlightens me out, the stars, blings, shines,I understand. haha. Good job at keeping the file to a minimum size.

about moving, If I can move, I will move. maybe at place where Internet is not about the corporate bastards money grubbing %$^$%^$%^….. Maybe… but for now, maybe dumping another anime to make rooms…If it were you guys, can you guys live with just 20GB/month?

      • Kai believe me, I know what I’m doing here regarding encoding settings and the likes.
This episode just required way more bitrate to look about the same as others because of the CGI with 9001 sparkles during the concert.
And since there will be most likely no Blurays (and even if there were, I wouldn’t be a fan of making more encodes) I’m sure most people would prefer good looking TV releases. In addition to that, 500mb is not much nowadays. If your Internet is slow or limited, you should consider moving someplace where the Internet isn’t as shitty. To be quite harsh, it’s not our fault your internet is bad, and fact is that most peoples Internet isn’t either. So, if you were the one to make choices, would you rather keep the filesize so 95 people are happy or drop it so only 5 people are happy?

  5. Surprised people thought this show would just be 13 episodes. Shoujo series are usually around 50-51 episodes or more. Look at us doing PRAD…still not done lol. My goal is to get it all done atleast before 2013 and get second season started, but we’ll see..Glad you guys are still doing Aikatsu till the end. Keep up the great work.

  7. Thanks again! Of course there’s no way to be sure, but it sure *feels* like the creators have some genuine love for this series. The English-speaking community is lucky to have a subbing group that’s giving it the care it deserves.

Also, Bepp-sensei seriously needs some sort of “Best Supporting Character of the Year” award.
