Aikatsu! – 90

Yurika-tan, love you~

There was a Yurika scene in the episode I wanted to make a gif of but I can’t find it

Looks like I’m back on Aikatsu. Been since episode 75. Yurika is the best. Aoi is like, above average. So this was pretty nice.

Enjoy the product of Aka-chan’s “I can’t lose” karaoke effects.

The v2 is because we somehow missed a line. And EinsamerWanderer, I think I remembered to use quotes this time!

Yeah, they skipped a lot.

Yeah, they skipped a lot.

This show is literally Elfen Lied.

Also, since this is the last episode, we’re going to have staff comments, as usual. Eventually. I just wanna sleep. This was delayed like ten extra minutes because the ED was being silly.

Etoce (Translation, Timing, Songs, QC):

For some reason, this show provided script that were… uh, not very frustrating to translate. I think it was probably because the script was very forced and uninspiring. Actually, the show in general wasn’t that great. It was a pleasing show to translate, but I don’t know if I’d’ve enjoyed it very much if I were just watching it. Oh well. I guess it had its moments. And this show also led to me achieving my fifth fansubbing achievement, so that was nice.

Akatsukin (Editing, Typesetting, TLC)

This show had Taneda Risa, astronomy, and Elfen Lied, just like I said. It also was clearly biased towards certain girls, which I had hoped it wouldn’t do (Neko excluded, MC privilege and all). The juxtaposition between very serious/people dying and making jokes about the gradation of nipples was pretty humorous, and it wasn’t particularly difficult to do this show from my position. It just didn’t have that magic that it needed to be really great. Maybe that was somewhere in the 50 chapters it butchered. Well, I’m at least glad it’s over and we can all move on with our lives. Oh yeah, and if you go back and watch Oreshura again after this it becomes about 214% funnier.

Special thanks to HS for doing such a great job encoding for us.

Man, I wish we’d capitalized more words earlier in the show.

Hexenjagd means witch hunt, Ain Soph Aur is some tree of life bullshit, and Initializer is English for “initializer”.

Hexenjagd is also the German title of The Crucible (way to be kreativ, Germans), which is a terrible play (though maybe I only feel that way because they forced us to read it in school, and it’s a damn play, so why are we reading it).

That must be the lewdest math book ever...

That must be the lewdest math book ever…

So apparently the taking-cold-baths diet is a thing in Japan, which is why Murakami tells Kazumi to take a cold bath when she asks him to help her prepare for the beach in a scene that otherwise makes no sense. I remember wanting to say something else, but I forgot what it was. Oh yeah, the fucking new OP. Who knows what they’re saying?

And this episode’s title (Proof of Life) is the second that shares its name with a song that mirrors what happens in the show. In this case, it’s the Kagamine Rin song by… Hitoshizuku-P?! What?! I didn’t know it was written by Hitoshizuku-P!

I’m enjoying all the screentime Kazumi’s getting, but it just makes me feel like she’s about to be majorly sidelined. Well, at least she’ll be needed for her Dutch oversetting.

Oh yeah, speaking of Dutch, I almost bought a DFB jersey (uh, “kit”?) yesterday. Then I didn’t. And I think there was something I wanted to TL-note, but I forgot what it was. I’ll letcha all know if I remember.

Gokukoku no Brynhildr – 07

...

Lots of new proper nouns this episode.

Grani is some horse in Norse mythology somewhat connected to Brynhildr. It’s pronounced in such a way as to suggest that it should be “Grane”, but we spelled it “Grani” to be consistent with “Brynhildr” (the Brynhildr in the title is closer to Brunhilde — you either use Brynhildr/Grani or Brunhilde/Grane).

Kojo no Tsuki (荒城の月) means “Moon over the Ruined Castle” and is a song from like, a long time ago. It’d be like an American singing Camptown Races at karaoke.

In BUMP OF CHICKEN’s song 天体観測 (also the title of this episode), the singer sings about how in his obsession with looking at the stars, he overlooks the girl on Earth next to him. I guess this is kinda like that.

Also, about star magnitudes. Apparently stars are sometimes categorized by their brightness into categories with numbers. It’s a log scale, though, so it’s not like Vega is cheating to be magnitude zero. In fact, the scale they’re probably using is calibrated using Vega to be zero.
