Aikatsu Stars! – 001

Become the first star of idols!

Become the first star of idols!

To those of you who are just picking this up, welcome. To those coming right off of Aikatsu, welcome back. It’s the beginning of a brand-new journey for us all, and I’m excited to start it with you. We’re in for another hopefully long trip into a slightly different world of Aikatsu, and I’ll let you explore it and judge it yourself.

The primary music studio has changed from Monaca. However, they still composed the ED song. The CG studio has also changed to Sunrise’s in-house group, but Samurai Pictures is still helping them make the models. They’ll probably need a bit of time to get used to the series, so please be patient.

And now for my usual notes. The four classes of Four Star Academy are Moon, Wind, Bird, and Flower. This corresponds to 花鳥風月, meaning the beauties of nature. The two songs thus far, Start Line sung by Hime and Aikatsu Step by Yume, parallel each other with their lyrics. Much like the original, you’ll find a lot of star and light metaphors woven into the language used.

As a final note, I have one suggestion, since so many of you said this was the first super long form series you followed. Watch the episode. Absorb it, think about it, feel it. Then after a few hours, a day, or right before episode 2, watch it again. It’s hard for everyone, including me, to get over lingering feelings from the past year or more, but seeing it twice and giving yourself time lets you be more objective. It’s different, and that’s okay. It’s still Aikatsu, and I’m sure you’ll like it.

  1. Yay! Downloading now 🙂 …

… but I have to go out so I won’t get to watch it for a few hours. 🙁

But thanks, can’t wait ’til I get back home.

  3. I’m glad to see you’re joining this journey into a new Aikatsu! with us. I’ve already watched it live and aside from the obvious big changes (new art style and ED style, boys/men being more relevant, and the possibility of designers being done away with) it didn’t feel any different from the usual Aikatsu! to me though maybe seeing it with subs may change that. Either way, here’s to a few more years worth of new Aikatsu! style stories to see.

  5. Great work guys loving it so far, just one point I picked up 21:37 where the sub line says “Hime-chan” although the speech is to Yume. Dunno if you want these pick ups posted here or rather direct messages instead.

  7. So you started from 001 instead from episode 01 to avoid the filename issue like with the first Aikatsu when you reached the 100th episode.

    Thanks for picking this project.

  8. Woot! Can’t wait to experience this new journey with you guys. I’m interested to see what they change from Aikatsu, and what they keep the same.

  10. For those who miss Aikatsu too much, here’s a trivia about the voice-acting in this season:
Ichigo, Aoi and Ran’s seiyuu are still there in this season since they each dub one member of the S4 unit, respectively Kisaragi Tsubasa, Nikaido Yuzu and Kasumi Yozora. So yeah, they’re still top idols in a way.

  11. I watched the Japanese stream the other day and I felt greatly interested right away, although I missed the old cast, I truly look forward to enjoying my time with this new series. Thanks for subbing this, now I can fully enjoy the episode instead of watching with very limited Japanese understanding.

  13. I was past episode 100 of Aikatsu due to lack of time and it’s hard to pick it in the middle so a fresh start is a good thing for me. Hope this time I will stick with it to the end.

    Thanks for the subs!

  15. Fun bit of trivia:

That male student Yume-chan ran into… errr… dropped onto… is named Yuuki Subaru (Subaru is his given name). Yuuki is not the same as “yuki” or snow, but Subaru is the Japanese name of the Pleiades star cluster, so another tie-in to the “Stars” theme. Not the first time a character’s name had a not-so-subtle underlying meaning.

  17. You need to put about Ishiguro directing the ED there. Anyway, things sure happened during me being tortured in RL…

  19. I finished the Drama CD, and then rewatched this episode as suggested. Honestly, while the old cast (especially Ichigo, Aoi, and Ran) made me laugh a lot like the good old days, I really am looking forward to this new show.

That feeling of a ‘new’ start is really exciting, and I want to see how far Yume goes in her adventure to join the S4. I am a big fan of Princess dresses so that first performance was pretty awesome… then the ED happened. Holy shit, that was really -awesome-.

Thanks for continuing to sub Aikatsu, guys.

  22. Thanks for the release! Just finished ep 178 aikatsu and pretty hype to start on this one! Tho before that, is Ichigo still the top idol at the end of the ep or Akari surpassed her? Also i understand that this new Aikatsu series is a spin off..might there any chance of the old characters appearing here?

    • My guesses:
      (a) Not yet. Give her time.
      (b) I’m hoping they’ll at least be mentioned. I get the feeling the new series takes place a few years in the future with the upgraded Aikatsu system and such. Who knows what inspired the S4 girls, Hime in particular, to become idols.

  24. Finally, the new era. After three and a half years of Starlight’s experience, the door has opened for a new world.
